山岳民族から得られた平和への発想　－トルストイ／Ideas for peace from hill tribes – Tolstoy

　キッシンジャーの頭にあるのは、ホメイニのような激しい反米的レトリックをもつ勢力がイラン、シリア、レバノンを支配するというものだろうが、シリアはシーア派の国ではなく、レバノンもまたシーア派だけでなく、スンニ派やキリスト教のマロン派の人々も住んでいる。イラクではイランのように宗教指導者が統治するという考えは支持されていない。イランを敵視するキッシンジャーの発想はソ連を悪とした冷戦時代の二元的発想のようだが、トランプ政権以降、アメリカの対イラン政策は厳格な性格をもっている。

　昨日は「山の日」だったが、ロシアの作家トルストイには山岳民族でイスラム教徒の英雄ハジ・ムラートを描いた作品（文字通り『ハジ・ムラート』１９０４年）があり、この作品には「自己防衛の口実の下に（攻撃はいつも強国からひき起こされるにもかかわらず、あるいは野蛮な民族は文明化するという口実の下に（その野蛮な民族は文明化する者たちよりも比較にならないほどよい、平和な暮らしをしているというのに）、あるいは他の何らかの口実の下に、巨大軍事力の国家の召使どもは弱い民族にたいしてありとあらゆる悪事をおかす、彼らにはこうするより他に手がないとうそぶいて」というくだりがある。現代の欧米による中東イスラム世界への軍事介入によく言い得ることだ。

　トルストイの信条に影響されて「人を殺すくらいなら、殺される方を選ぶ」と死刑覚悟で兵役を拒否し、山間の農村で農業を営みながらトルストイの著書を読み、翻訳を行った北御門二郎（きたみかど・じろう、１９１３～２００４年）氏は、トルストイの「愛国心が家族への愛情と同じように、人間にとって自然な感情である。しかしそれは決して美徳ではない。愛国心ゆえに隣人を傷つけるとするなら、むしろ罪悪だと言わなければならない。」という言葉に強く動かされた。「土を耕し他の力に頼ることなく生活するものが国の力である。ロシアの国力は兵力ではない。その鍬（くわ）である。」というトルストイの考えの通り北御門氏は「自分で作った野菜や果実の素朴な味わいと山から引いてきた水の美味しさがささやかな贅沢という暮らし」ぶりだったという。

　ロシアのプーチン大統領も、またガザを空爆するイスラエルのラピド首相も何があろうと、「とにかく人を殺してはならない。殺人はあらゆる信仰の根本原理に反する罪であり、絶対に犯してはならない」と唱えたトルストイの作品を読んだらどうだろう。
