カブールでパンを配る店主

　時事通信の記事にアフガニスタンのカブールで困窮する人々にパンを無料で配布する店主の話が紹介されていた。記事によれば、アフガニスタンでは国民の６割が食料援助を必要とされているが、店主のメフル・ディル・カーン・ラフマティさん（５８歳）は、余裕がある人々から資金を募って、３年前からパンを配るようになった。ラフマティさんによれば、５００アフガニ（約６００円）の金で２５枚のパンを無料で配布できるという。アメリカがタリバンの政権掌握を嫌い、アフガニスタンの資産を凍結したことによって、アフガニスタンは経済的苦境に陥るようになった。中村哲医師は人類共通の文化遺産とは平和・相互扶助の精神であると述べたが、アフガニスタンの人々を扶助することがいまほど国際社会に求められている時はない。

イスラムの喜捨

ムスリムの基本的行いである五行の喜捨によって、それを与える者、また受領する者も相互の愛情によって結束させられているという意識をもつ。喜捨が共同体に富のバランスを作ることによって、人々が精神的な前進を図ることができると考えられた。さらに、喜捨は富裕な者と貧者との絆を強め、窃盗、暴力行為、その他の社会的病弊を減じるものと考えられている。また、喜捨はイスラム共同体に協調的な環境をもたらし、ムスリム相互の不和や競合を排除するものであることが理想とされている。

イスラムの宗教信条の一つで、「客の権利」として３日間にわたる宿泊と食事の権利が与えられている。イスラムの聖典コーラン（クルアーン）では宗教に強制があってはならないと説き（２章２５６節）。宗教的な寛容性はアラビア語の「タサームフ（相互寛容）」という言葉で表される。イスラム世界の人々は、日本人のような異文化の世界から来た旅人に異様なほど愛想がよいことに容易に気づく。

東日本大震災で日本人を助けたムスリムたち

２０１１年３月１１日に東日本大震災が発生すると、日本に在住するムスリムたちは競うようにして被災地に赴き、救援活動を行うようになった。イスラミック・サークル・オブ・ジャパン（ICOJ、浅草モスクを拠点とする）は宮城県石巻市の渡波地区でカレーの炊き出しを行った。被災者を救援するというのはやはりイスラムの教義に通底するものだ。

各宗教に共通する相互扶助

　同志社大学での講演で、アイン・シャムス大学のモハメド・ハワリー教授は「ヘブライ語のツェダカーは英語のチャリティ、アラビア語のサダカに相当する語であり、収入の１０分の１を貧しい者に施すユダヤ教徒の義務のことである。ユダヤ教において相互扶助は中心的位置を占めている。」と述べた。キリスト教や仏教でも慈善事業は重要な徳目の一つとされる。アリストテレスは「人間は社会的動物である」と語ったが、人間には本来、連帯したり、協調したりする本能が備わっている。中村哲医師が説くように、やはり平和と相互扶助は人類共通の文化遺産だ。

An article of Jiji Press introduced the story of a shopkeeper who distributes bread to people in need in Kabul, Afghanistan for free. According to the article, 60% of the people in Afghanistan need food aid, but the owner, Mehr Dir Khan Rahmati, 58, has been raising funds from people who can afford it for three years. According to Rafmati, 25 pieces of bread can be distributed free of charge for 500 afghani (about 600 yen). Afghanistan was in financial trouble as the United States hated the Taliban’s seizure of power and frozen Afghanistan’s assets. Dr. Tetsu Nakamura said that the cultural heritage common to all humankind is the spirit of peace and mutual aid. There has never been a greater need for the international community to help the people of Afghanistan.

Islamic sadaqah

There is a consciousness that those who give sadaqah and those who receive it are united by mutual help by the mercy of the five elements, which is the basic deed of Muslims. It was thought that by mercy creating a balance of wealth in the community, people could make spiritual progress. In addition, sadaqah is believed to strengthen the bond between the rich and the poor and reduce theft, violence and other social illnesses. Ideally, sadaqah will bring a cooperative environment to the Islamic community and eliminate discord and competition between Muslims.

As Dr. Tetsu Nakamura explains, peace and mutual aid are cultural heritage common to all humankind.
