ロシアはアフガニスタンのような泥沼に
朝日新聞の「アエラ」に「軍事ジャーナリストが分析『ロシアが制圧しても、アフガニスタンのような泥沼に』」という記事が寄せられ、軍事ジャーナリストの田岡俊次氏がロシアが軍事的にウクライナを制圧してもアフガニスタンのような泥沼に陥ると語っている。
ロシアの占領に対してウクライナ人たちがゲリラ戦やテロで対抗していく可能性を田岡氏は指摘し、ゲリラ戦などの補給はルーマニアやポーランドやルーマニアから行われるのではないかと述べている。田岡氏の指摘のように、ロシアの侵攻に憤る国際的義勇兵が２万人以上、ポーランドに集結しているとウクライナ政府は述べている。

この詩はスペイン内戦（１９３６年～３９年）でファシスト軍と戦う人民戦線の兵士たちを描いたものだが、ロシア軍はウクライナではネルーダが表現する「非道な敵」「棘」「蝮」だろう。武力で人の心は制圧することはできず、ロシアの傀儡ができ上っても人々の支持を得られないだろう。
１９８２年から９２年の間、西は北アフリカや東アフリカ、東はフィリピンなどアジア諸国からおよそ３万５０００人のムスリム義勇兵がアフガニスタンで戦闘を行ったと見積もられている。オサマ・ビン・ラディンは、１９８０年代のアフガン戦争で「無神論」のソ連軍と戦うために、イスラム世界各地から義勇兵を募った。

パキスタンのムハンマド・ジア＝ウル＝ハク政権は、ソ連軍に抵抗するムジャヒディンを強力に支援していった。パキスタンは、数百万人にも上るアフガン難民を受け入れ、西側諸国の評価を高めていく。このパキスタンの役割を、田岡氏が言うように、ポーランドやルーマニアが果たしていく可能性は十分考えられる。
１９８９年２月にアフガニスタンから撤退すると、国力を疲弊させたソ連は、その後３年もしないうちに崩壊した。ウクライナ侵攻で、経済制裁を受け、軍事優先の経済政策を行うプーチンのロシアはこのソ連崩壊と同様なプロセスを歩んでいる印象だ。

Russia in a swamp like Afghanistan

This poem depicts the soldiers of the Popular Front fighting the fascist army during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), but the Russian army would be the “vicious enemy,” “thorn,” and “viper” that Neruda describes in Ukraine. People’s hearts cannot be suppressed by force, and even if a Russian puppet government is created, it will not be supported by people.
It is estimated that between 1982 and 1992, approximately 35,000 Muslim volunteers from Asian countries such as the Philippines in the east, to North and East Africa in the west fought in Afghanistan. Osama bin Laden recruited volunteers from all over the Islamic world to fight the “atheistic” Soviet troops in the 1980s Afghan war.

Pakistan’s Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq administration strongly supported Mujahideen, who resisted Soviet troops. Pakistan accepted millions of Afghan refugees and increased the reputation of Western nations. As Mr. Taoka says, it is quite possible that Poland and Romania will play this Pakistani role for Ukraine.
Withdrawing from Afghanistan in February 1989, the Soviet Union, which had exhausted its national power, collapsed within three years. Putin’s Russia, which has been sanctioned by the invasion of Ukraine and has a military-first economic policy, seems to be following the same process as the collapse of the Soviet Union.
