核の恐怖　―ウクライナ戦争

　ロシア軍がウクライナの原子力発電所を制圧し、またプーチン大統領は核兵器の使用に言及するようになった。

　核兵器は１９４５年に広島、長崎で使用されて以来、実戦で用いられていない。核兵器が危険なのは、いうまでもなく一つの軍事行動で、より大勢の人間を殺傷することが可能だからである。１年から４１年にかけ、ドイツ空軍は総量１８．８・キロトンの爆弾を用いてイギリス市民４万３０００人を殺害したが、それに対し、広島では１５キロトンの原爆一発で７万人が一瞬にして亡くなった。さらにその後に原爆症で亡くなった人を含めると、広島の犠牲者は１４万人に到達すると見積もられている。戦術的核兵器の使用に言及する専門家もいるが、現在の戦術核は広島や長崎に投下された原爆よりも威力がある。

作家・原民喜の記録

　作家の原民喜は、原爆投下の惨状をメモした手帳を基に描いた『夏の花』（１９４７年）を書いたが、「原子爆弾の惨劇のなかに生き残った私は、その時から私も、私の文学も、何ものかに激しく弾き出された。この眼で視た生々しい光景こそは死んでも描きとめておきたかった。・・・」と述べている。遠藤周作は、『夏の花』を「いくつも書かれた広島原爆を描いた小説の中でも最高のもの」と絶賛している。

長崎の「グランド・ゼロ」

「Nagasaki: Life After Nuclear War」を２０１６年に著した米国人作家のスーザン・サザードさんは、”Ground Zero Nagasaki” という記事をTomDispatch.comに１月１７日に寄稿しているが、その中で多くの米国人が歴史の授業では、広島・長崎への原爆投下が戦争の終結を早めたと教えられるが、それにはなんの根拠もなく、冷戦時代の核軍拡を進めることに国民の支持を得るための政府の意図が背景にあり、このような政府の主張によって、広島・長崎で実際に起こったことから米国人たちは注意が向かず、いまだに核軍拡を支持する要因となっているとサザードさんは訴える。トランプ政権がロシアとの中距離核全廃条約から離脱を表明し、また１兆６０００億ドルの核兵器の近代化計画をもっていることにも警鐘を鳴らしている。

　サザードさんは、真珠湾攻撃、日本の中国での残虐行為は確かにあったものの、米国は日本の６６の都市を空爆し、６６８、０００人の市民を殺害し、長崎では１９４５年の末までに原爆で７４，０００人の男女・子どもが亡くなったが、そのうち軍関係者はわずかに１５０人であったことを指摘し、これは現在では「テロリズム」と呼ぶべきものではないかと語る。

Nuclear horror-Ukraine war

Susan Southard, an American writer who wrote “Nagasaki: Life After Nuclear War” in 2016, wrote an article “Ground Zero Nagasaki” on TomDispatch.com on January 17^th, 2019. Many Americans are told in history lessons that the dropping of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki hastened the end of the war, but for no reason, the government intention to gain public support for the expansion of nuclear weapons during the Cold War. By such a government claim, Americans did not pay attention to what actually happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and it is still a factor in supporting the expansion of nuclear weapons. She also warned that the Trump administration has announced its withdrawal from the medium-range nuclear abolition treaty with Russia and has a $ 1.6 trillion plan to modernize its nuclear weapons.

Mr. Southard said that despite the attack on Pearl Harbor and Japan’s atrocities in China, the United States bombed 66 cities in Japan, killing 668,000 citizens, and until the end of 1945 in Nagasaki, she pointed out that 74,000 men, women and children were killed in the atomic bomb, of which only 150 were military personnel, and that this should now be called “terrorism.”
