フランス大統領選の決戦投票に極右「国民連合（RN）」前党首のマリーヌ・ル・ペン氏が残った。フランスのイスラム嫌い（Islamphobia）の風潮が表れているようだ。
ウクライナ戦争の報道に接していると、戦争の記憶の継承が大切だということをつくづく感ずる。「火垂るの墓」の作者の野坂昭如氏は「幼い妹の世話は父や母のように出来ない、妹に食べさせるつもりの食糧まで自分が食べてしまい生後１年半の妹を死なせてしまったと現在でも悔やんでいるのです。妹が自分の手の中で死んでいったこと、亡骸を自分で火葬したこと、その骨をドロップ缶に入れていたこと、この辺りのエピソードは全部実話です。」と語っている。
「火垂るの墓」の高畑勲監督は、ミッシェル・オスロ監督のアニメ映画「アズールとアスマール」（日本公開は２００７年）の日本語版監修もしている。この映画について、高畑監督は、下のように解説した。
「アズールとアスマール」の主眼とは何か。それは、異なった人種や民族、文化圏などの間にある反目や偏見を取り除き、人々が相互理解と融和に向かうための基盤づくりに役立つことを、とびきり美しく面白く語ろう、という狙いです。（中略）フランスで迫害されたユダヤ人学者も、迫害のない寛容なイスラム世界では、同じよそ者扱いながら賢者・医者として生きられる。粗野で閉鎖的な中世ヨーロッパと、交流によって繁栄する中世イスラム世界。
反目や偏見をなくすためには個人と個人の付き合いこそ大切、と、こういう対比のなかで、オスロ氏はじつに個性的で面白い人物たちを活躍させます。そこがこの作品の一番の魅力です。」
物語は同じアラブ人の乳母に育てられ領主の息子アズールと乳母の息子アスマールの話だが、ミシェル・オスロ監督はこの映画の制作意図について、
「一見対極に立っている２人が、実は、話し合えば言葉の壁すらも魅力の一つになって分かり合えるということを説明するために、北アフリカという場所を選びました。フランスに住んでいる移民の大半は北アフリカ出身なんです」と述べた。
フランスなどヨーロッパ世界では、フランスの「国民連合」の主張に見られるように、ムスリム系移民の排斥を唱え、イスラムに対する偏見をもつ極右勢力が台頭し、それによってもたらされる疎外感が過激派の主張に移民二世、三世の若者たちを向かわせることになっている。「偏見や反目」を超えて個人や国家がつき合っていくことが、国際社会の融和や安定を築くことになると思うが、過激派のテロ、ウクライナでの戦争を抱える現代において特に国際社会は肝に銘じなければならないことだ。

The story is about the lord’s son Azul and the nanny’s son Asmar, who were raised by the same Arab nanny. Michel Oslo talks about the film’s intentions.
