また１４世紀にヨーロッパで流行した黒死病の原因は井戸の水にユダヤ人たちがキリスト教世界を破滅に導くために毒を入れたからというデマが流され、ユダヤ人たちは悪魔の使いで、反キリストであることが強調されていく。
人々の「恐怖」を開拓したヒトラー
アドルフ・ヒトラーは、ドイツの閉塞された時代に、ロシア革命を指導したボリシェヴィキにユダヤ人が多かったと資本家や中間層の恐怖を煽り、また国民にはユダヤ人が世界を征服しようとしているとデマを流し、人々の「恐怖」を開拓し、アーリア人の優秀性を説き、ユダヤ人を弾圧していった。

アメリカではイラク戦争前、ジェームズ・ウールジー元ＣＩＡ長官が、冷戦を「第三次世界大戦」と呼び、また「第四次世界大戦」を提唱し、アメリカとイギリスがイスラム原理主義者や、イランの「神政主義者」、シリアとイラクのファシスト、ビンラディンのアルカイダ、エジプトのホスニー・ムバラク、サウジアラビアのサウド王家を攻撃することを求めた。また、彼はサダム・フセインが９１１の同時多発テロの背後にいることを繰り返し強調し、イラク攻撃の「正当性」を執拗に説いた。このようなタカ派のデマゴーグがＣＩＡ長官であったことはＣＩＡがもたらす情報の信ぴょう性をも疑わせるにものでもあり、アメリカはデマに基づいてイラク戦争を開始したが、結局イラクでは大量破壊兵器は見つからなかった。

トランプ前大統領は、アメリカはクリスチャンの移民・難民だけを受け入れるべきだと主張した。ムスリム難民はアメリカ社会を危険に陥れるというのがトランプ氏の主張だったが、毎年１万人以上は銃で亡くなっている銃に伴う事件とムスリムはほとんどといってよいほど関係がない。シリア難民の受け入れに反対したトランプ氏は銃規制に反対することを誇っていた。トランプ氏はイランがペルシア湾や紅海における艦船の自由な航行を妨げ、９１１の後、オサマ・ビンラディンの息子を含むテロリストをかくまったと９１１とイランを結びつけた。（「ワシントン・ポスト」の記事）。まったく根拠が薄弱なデマ、言いがかりだった。
政治家のデモに振り回されないためには、国民は知識を蓄え、常に理性的な思考をしなければならない。特に現在国際政治の焦点にあるウクライナやロシアの国民はよく考えて、行動してほしい。やはり無責任なデマを飛ばす政治家の責任は重大だ。
